3 Options for Whitening Your Teeth

3 Options for Whitening Your Teeth

Many people want a bright white smile they can feel good about. Yet, they limit themselves to over-the-counter whitening treatments that yield less-than-ideal results.

Over time, there are so many things that contribute to stained and discolored teeth. Thankfully, there are ways to whiten your teeth successfully. It all starts with your dentist.

Here are 3 options for whitening your teeth.

Option 1: Professional Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening treatments can be highly beneficial in wiping away stains, leaving teeth shades lighter. However, the type of teeth whitening treatment you choose, matters. For instance, your local grocery store, discount store, or drug store will carry teeth whitening treatments for you to use at home. These have minimal bleaching agents, do not often give the results you hope for, and can irritate the gums and teeth.

Professional teeth whitening treatments offered by your dentist, such as Zoom Teeth Whitening, are the best option. It is fast, effective, and safe. Not to mention that it leaves you with dramatic results - several shades lighter in just one dental visit.

For those who prefer at-home whitening, professional options from your dentist are available. This treatment will be done over a week or two and will result in teeth that are shades lighter. Keep in mind this is not equivalent to an over-the-counter whitening kit.

Option 2: Composite Bonding

Some teeth become discolored in a way that teeth whitening treatments cannot erase. The good news is that there are additional options for teeth whitening, such as dental bonding, also referred to as composite bonding.

This treatment is used for repairing chipped or cracked teeth, but it can also be used for whitening. Here’s how it works:

The tooth is lightly etched in order to create a surface that can be gripped. Then, bonding liquid is applied and left to set. Plastic resin is applied and sculpted in a way that matches the shape and contour of your other teeth. Trimming, smoothing, and polishing is often done to ensure a natural appearance.

Composite bonding is strong and durable - and an excellent option for covering discolorations that won’t respond to whitening treatments.

Option 3: Dental Veneers

Dental veneers - especially porcelain veneers - help restore smiles in a more permanent manner. They are often considered to be one of the best cosmetic treatment options. They work well for covering gaps, chips and cracks, odd-shaped teeth, misalignments, and more.

Dental veneers also hide discolorations.

This treatment option can be used to cover one tooth or multiple teeth. It is not uncommon for patients to invest in veneers that cover all of their visible teeth, leaving them with a perfect smile.

Porcelain veneers are durable and very natural in their appearance. While this option is the most costly, it does provide the best results - and the longest-lasting results, too.
